Failures Commonly Experienced by Raid 5 Servers:

A raid 5 array can fail for a variety of reasons, it is vital that the fault is diagnosed correctly by a raid professional data recovery expert in order that the data on the raid hard drives can be recovered. There are a number of signs that your raid system may be close to experiencing failure, missing RAID partition, Raid power surge, wrong reconfiguration of RAID volume, Raid rebuild error, multiple disk failure, system upgrade, loss of RAID configuration settings etc, below is the most common RAID 5 failure types we receive in for data recovery:

RAID 5 Hard Drive Mechanical Failure:

This type of failure is normally the result of one or more of the raid hard disk failing, the result is one or more hard drive making beeping, buzzing or clicking noises. Beeping and buzzing noise is normally an indication that the motor has failed. A clicking noise is normally an indication that the read/write heads have failed. A clicking noise is the most common type of failure we receive in for a hard drive. This failure is normally the result of the hard drive getting a knock or a fall. We have a high success rate with recovering data from RAID 5 systems that have mechanical failures.

RAID 5 Rebuild Failure:

A RAID-5 rebuild procedure will always fail unless all of the server components are working 100%, i.e. raid controller, all other hard disk drive members are present, accounted for and working 100%. Failed rebuild attempts are the No1 reason we receive in RAID systems for recovery. Most people are unaware that completing a rebuild is risking your data. We can recover data from a partial or full rebuild that has gone astray. Contact us for free advice before or after you have run a RAID 5 rebuild.

RAID 5 Electronic or Firmware Failure:

This type of failure is normally the result of a power surge or power spike. In most cases of electronic failure some of the hard drives in the RAID 5 array will be completly dead. Firmware codes are typically located on disk platters, and if the platter becomes damaged or corrupted, the hard disk drive will experience a failure. We receive in a lot of RAID systems that have had a firmware upgrade only for the firmware upgrade to corrupt the RAID file system. We have a high success rate with recovering data from dead or firmware corrupted RAID 5 HDD’s.

Faulty RAID 5 Controller or Missing RAID partition:

RAID 5 controllers can fail. Clients try replacing raid card but system does not boot. There are several reasons why replacing a RAID controller does not fix the problem due to diffent versions of card, different firmware etc but we can recover 100% of raid data if this happens. We receive in a lot of RAID systems that have a missing partition due to a rebuild that has gone wrong, a disk replacement that did no work correctly, loss of data after a system upgrade etc. We can recover 100% of data from a partial or full rebuild that has gone astray.
