Dented, and Not the Same as a Snapped microSD
His enquiry is unusual in its cause and encouraging in its hardware. A professional video card holding footage, "which has unfortunately been dented by a bite from my dog. I'm hoping I can pay you to try and retrieve the files from the card — which now won't mount on my computer or be recognised in the camera." Physical damage to a card is normally the hardest news in this archive. But cards of this class are built differently from the ones in phones, and that difference opens a route that does not exist on a microSD.

The decode: what is inside this card, and why it matters
Why a microSD is usually the end of the story: those cards are monolithic — the memory and controller are fabricated together and encapsulated into a single moulded block with no separable parts. There is nothing to open and nothing to lift off, so physical damage that reaches the package is generally final.
Why professional video cards are different: they are larger, and the space is used. Inside a rigid shell there is a proper circuit board carrying discrete memory devices and a separate controller, laid out conventionally. That means the components can be reached.
