When a partition disappears — showing as unallocated, RAW, or asking to be formatted — it’s almost always the partition’s map that’s lost, not your files. We rebuild the partition and recover your data from any hard drive, SSD, USB stick or memory card, in-house.
$ bdr diagnose /dev/sdb → Device: Seagate HDD (2 TB) → Status: PARTITION LOST — drive reads as RAW → Client: confidential · Wallsend NE1 3DY $ bdr engineer-working → Read-only image: taken · source untouched → Partition table: rebuilt + remounted → File system: structure intact · files visible $ bdr verify → ✓ documents — 14,210 files → ✓ photos — 21,540 files → ✓ partition recovered — files back
If Windows or your Mac tells you a drive needs formatting — or a partition utility offers to ‘fix’ it — hold off. Formatting, or writing a fresh partition table over the drive, can land straight on top of the data we’re trying to save. Leave chkdsk and repair tools alone, don’t create or resize any partitions, and keep anything from writing to the drive: unplug it and get in touch. The more untouched it stays, the stronger the recovery.
A missing partition almost always means the partition structure is damaged or gone — not the data itself, which usually sits untouched on the drive. These are the cases we see most.
We rebuild lost and corrupted partitions on every kind of storage and every major brand. If it holds your files, the odds are we can help.
Hard drives · SSDs · USB sticks · SD, microSD and CF cards · external and portable drives · the drives inside laptops, PCs and Macs.
Recovering a missing partition means rebuilding the structure that points to your data — never writing to the original drive. We image your device first, rebuild the partition from that copy, then recover and return your files.
Let us know what happened. We size up the damage — a corrupted table, a deleted partition, a RAW drive — and come back with a written quote, usually within 48 hours.
We make a forensic, read-only image of the drive and do everything on that copy, so there’s no way for the original data to be overwritten.
We reconstruct the partition table and pinpoint the file system, re-establishing where your partition and files actually sit on the disk.
If the boot sector or file system is corrupt, we mend the structures the partition needs in order to mount and hand back your files.
From the rebuilt partition we pull your files back, sweeping in anything that had been sitting in the lost or unallocated space.
We confirm the recovered files open properly and the folder tree is intact, then send them over on fresh media.
We put your data on an external drive and post it back, or make it available as a free download for anything up to 75GB.
We rebuild lost and corrupted partitions on hard drives, SSDs, USB sticks, memory cards and external drives — working from a read-only image and recovering your files intact.
Tell us what happened and we’ll get back to you, usually within a working day.
We’ll be in touch shortly. If it’s urgent, call 0191 406 1051.
No hidden charges and no hard sell — just a free diagnostic and a quote in writing before any work begins.
A handful of recent missing-partition jobs across different drives. Identifying details removed, every result verified.
The file system was corrupt, but the underlying data was untouched. A read-only image, a rebuilt partition, and everything came back.
The partition had been removed and the space read as unallocated. We tracked it down, rebuilt it, and recovered the files in full.
Power had dropped mid-write and the partition disappeared. Working from a forensic image, we rebuilt the table and returned the files.
Send the device in for its free diagnostic and tell us briefly what happened; an engineer reviews it and confirms your exact quote in writing before anything starts.
Getting your data back begins with getting the device to us. Pack it up safely, pop your contact details inside, and send it over — once we’ve run the free diagnostic, we’ll confirm your exact price in writing before any work starts.
Posting it? A tracked, insured service is what we’d recommend. Rather drop it in? You’re welcome Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm — just package the device up as above first.
Want a bit more detail first? Fill in the form with more about your issue and an engineer will review it and send you a custom quote.

The things people most often ask us about recovering a lost or missing partition.
Usually we can. A partition that’s vanished nearly always points to a damaged partition table or file system rather than lost data. We reconstruct the partition from a read-only image of the drive and pull your files back out.
Usually not. A RAW drive, or a prompt to format the disk, almost always signals a damaged file system while the data beneath it is perfectly fine. Leave it unformatted — we can rebuild the partition and get the files back.
Frequently, yes. Deleting a partition just leaves the space marked unallocated; the data typically lingers until something overwrites it. The sooner you stop using the drive and reach us, the better the odds.
Please don’t. chkdsk and partition-repair utilities write to the drive, and that can overwrite the data we need or make the partition harder to salvage. Unplug the drive and speak to us before you run anything at all.
Possibly. Formatting, initialising, or writing a new partition table over the drive can all land on your files. With a partition missing, the safe move is to stop and let us image the drive first.
It starts from £250 + VAT as a logical recovery, with a free diagnostic up front and no fix, no fee on most jobs. Should the drive turn out to be physically failing as well, we’ll confirm any higher figure in writing before we begin.
Hard drives, SSDs, USB sticks, SD, microSD and CF cards, external and portable drives, and the disks inside laptops, PCs and Macs. If your files live on it, we can usually help.
Absolutely. Lost and corrupted partitions on external drives, USB sticks and memory cards are among the most frequent jobs we take in — and generally very recoverable.
Most missing-partition jobs wrap up inside 1 to 3 working days, often quicker, and the diagnostic itself is usually done within 48 hours. Genuinely urgent cases can jump the queue — just tell us.
Bring it to our Newcastle location Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, or post it in fully insured. Seal it up well and tuck your contact details inside — name, address, phone number and email — so we can book it in. Once it arrives we run the free diagnostic and send a written quote before any work starts.
