When you delete a file, the file isn’t immediately wiped. The file remains on the device until something else writes over it. If you don’t use this device again, we can often recover deleted files from any hard drive, solid state drive (SSD), USB stick, memory card etc., right here in our office.
When you delete something, the likelihood is that the deleted document(s) will remain accessible on your device until new data completely writes over the space where they were located. Every time you take a picture using your camera, save a file, update an application etc., there’s a good chance that you’re deleting whatever was previously recoverable. Do not use the device again, and do not install any recovery software onto it. Put it away and call us. The sooner you stop, the better the chances are of recovering as much as possible.

Recovering deleted files is a very sensitive process. It is always done by first creating a “copy” of your original device and working with this copy. We do not edit or alter anything on the original device when we perform this service.

A forensic copy of the device is created, and all subsequent work is performed using this copied image of your device. The only thing that changes is what we’ve recovered for you. Nothing is altered or changed on your original device.

The card had not been accessed or touched since the time of deletion. It was then imaged and the JPEG and RAW files were extracted via signature carving and nearly all shots taken with that camera were recovered.
Because removable media skips the Recycle Bin when deleting, that delete was instantaneous. These files were directly extracted from the file table without any damage to the original files.
The drive was imaged and a full scan was run, the deleted items were recovered, and they were recovered from the drive before anything else was overwritten.

The most common questions we are asked when restoring deleted files.
Very often. Once a file is deleted, the data has not been wiped. It simply designates the area where the file used to be as “available” until something else is stored there. So long as nothing else is stored there (i.e. you do not use the device), the file should still exist.
Do not use your device again. Do not write anything to the device; do not store any additional images on the device; do not download or install recovery tools on the affected device. All of these actions may permanently destroy the previously deleted information. Then call us.
Yes, deleted pictures and movies (i.e. “photos and videos”) are among the most commonly recovered items from digital storage devices. As long as the memory card has not been severely written to since deletion of the pictures and videos was performed, we will normally be able to extract the deleted image(s) by analysing the original raw data that contained those image(s), regardless of whether they have been removed from the camera’s memory card “bin”.
Possibly; however, the likelihood is generally less than with other types of media such as a hard disk drive, USB thumb-drive or memory card. The majority of solid-state drives (SSDs) use something called TRIM technology that rapidly deletes data upon being marked for deletion. Not necessarily. Simply deleting files does not remove them completely. When you empty the Trash or Recycle Bin, you simply delete the reference to where the file resides on the hard drive. It is only when new information is stored in that space on the drive (overwriting the previous location) that the data is actually gone. Please do not continue to use the item and we may still be able to recover your lost data.
