The courier network is our branch network. Wherever you are in the UK, a tracked box gets your failed drive, SSD, RAID set, NAS disks, memory card or laptop onto the bench — where it's diagnosed free inside 48 hours and quoted in writing before any work starts.
What settles a recovery is the equipment and the engineer, not the mileage. A next-day courier puts every UK postcode a single box away from both.
It all begins with where to send it — so here it is, right up front.
Address your parcel to Newcastle Data Recovery, Rotterdam House, Lower Rotterdam House, Newcastle NE1 3DY, using any tracked and insured courier or Royal Mail service. Inside the box, add a note with your name, postal address, email and phone number — or print our shipping form and enclose that instead. That note is what books your device in the moment it arrives.
Leave caddies, cables and power supplies at home unless the fault involves them: for external drives the whole enclosure helps, but bare drives, cards and sticks need nothing more.
A minute of care at this stage takes the transit risk off the table.
Single drives and SSDs need a rigid box and packing that kills all movement — bubble wrap around the drive, filler around the wrap. RAID and NAS disks should each be marked with their bay or slot number and kept apart so they can't touch; the chassis and controller can usually stay with you. Cards and USB sticks travel fine taped to a piece of card inside a padded envelope; a snapped stick should have both halves bagged together. And a water-damaged drive is the exception to the rule: seal it in a bag while it's still damp, because it's the drying out that kick-starts the corrosion.
Nothing happens until you've approved it.
On arrival your device is booked in and joins the diagnostic queue — assessed free inside 48 hours. You then receive a written quote setting out what failed, what can be recovered and the exact cost, with no fix, no fee on most jobs. Physical drive-level repairs such as head swaps and board rebuilds carry a 50% deposit toward donor parts and bench time, with the balance due only once your data is recovered. When it's done, your files come back on new media, with the return arrangements agreed as part of your quote.
And if you're weighing posting against finding somewhere nearer: a fair share of ‘local’ recovery is already postal — plenty of shops that take a drive over the counter quietly forward it to a specialist lab. Sending it in yourself simply cuts out the middle step.
Send us your device for a free diagnostic, and tell us a little about what happened — an engineer will review it and confirm your exact quote in writing before any work begins.
Getting your data back begins with getting the device to us. Pack it up safely, pop your contact details inside, and send it over — once we’ve run the free diagnostic, we’ll confirm your exact price in writing before any work starts.
Posting it? A tracked, insured service is what we’d recommend. Rather drop it in? You’re welcome Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm — just package the device up as above first.
Want a bit more detail first? Fill in the form with more about your issue and an engineer will review it and send you a custom quote.
We’ll be in touch shortly. For anything urgent, call 0191 406 1051.
Less than you'd think. With the power off, a drive's read heads sit parked clear of the platters, so ordinary transit knocks never reach the data surfaces. Lock it down in a stiff box, book a tracked and insured service, and it arrives in the state it left — drives reach the bench this way every working day.
Your free diagnostic is done within 48 hours of the device landing, and the written quote that follows includes a timescale for the recovery itself. Single drives usually turn round in days; RAID sets and servers take longer, and genuinely urgent jobs can be flagged when you get in touch.
Distance makes no difference. Memory cards and USB sticks are £250 + VAT, single drives — internal, external, laptop or Mac — are £300 + VAT, and multi-disk RAID, NAS and server work is quoted after the free diagnostic. The full breakdown is on our pricing page.
Of course — if you're nearby, bring it to Rotterdam House in Newcastle any weekday between 9am and 5:30pm. The postal route is there for everyone who isn't: same bench, same engineers, same prices, however your device reaches us.
Pack it today, and you'll have a free written diagnostic within 48 hours of it reaching Newcastle — with nothing to pay until you give the go-ahead.
