Extracting Data From a Device That Is Not a Drive

It works like any USB stick. How long will it take to recover the data, and how much? I'll need the device back in one piece after extracting the data. His deserve three direct answers — and one of them needs a caveat that is better given before the work than discovered afterwards.

The decode: the three answers, and the caveat
On extraction — the broken port does not touch the data. A device of this kind stores footage on flash memory inside it, and the USB connector is simply how that memory is presented to a computer. A damaged connector breaks the route in and nothing else. What varies is the construction, and it decides the work: some devices hold a removable card hidden inside, which is the simplest case; some use a soldered flash chip on the main board, read directly; and some use an eMMC package, which combines memory and controller and can be read through its own service pads. Separating those goals explicitly, as he has, avoids the common muddle where a customer expects both and gets a compromise on each.
The question he has not asked, and should: whether the footage may be needed as evidence. Security camera material frequently is, and if there is any prospect of that, the handling changes — the device and the extraction need documenting, continuity recorded, and the original preserved unaltered alongside a working copy. That costs little if arranged at the outset and cannot be applied retrospectively. It is worth a sentence in the first email either way.
