Volume Twenty-Two carries the library past its eleven hundredth case. Forty-Eight more real recoveries: a set of college drives that read perfectly on one machine and not another, disk-imaging software aimed at the wrong device, a three-terabyte drive reporting under four gigabytes, an interrupted recording whose index was never written, a working computer from 1995 still holding a final-year project, a card wiped for sale that gave everything back, a stick that cooked in a set of DJ decks — and, at case 1100, an external drive that took twelve years, a broken relationship, a period of being lost entirely and one well-meant attempt by somebody else before it finally reached the person whose photographs are on it.
